What Mom REALLY Wants

May 9th, 2012

According to Psychology Today, Forbes, Modern Mom and countless other publications and news sources – what moms really want is (drum roll): time away. Away from the house, the kids, the chaos. Time to themselves to recharge and refuel. “A night or two at a hotel … alone where they can catch up on their much-deprived sleep, take a long bubble bath.” And what better place to get away from it all than at The Fairgate Inn? Give Mom a Gift Certificate for a night or two in one of our luxurious suites where she can soak to her heart’s content. Cozy robe, soft-as-silk sheets, fireplace, elegant decor … just what Mom ordered. And the scrumptious breakfast will leave her feeling like the queen she is. Perfectly pampered the Fairgate way. Fairgate Celebrates Anniversary

April 30th, 2012

The Fairgate Inn opened its doors on May 1, 2000. Not only did the inn go on to exceed the owner’s (Chris and Jack Foyt) vision of a successful bed and breakfast, it has become one of the top event venues in the Northwest. “What a ride it has been,” shares Chris. “We’ve weathered the storms including the economy and here we are – busier than we ever dreamed possible.” Much of the Fairgate’s success is to due to the owner’s savvy hands-on management and their ability to take risks. As Jack tells it, “When the demand for event space grew bigger than our original plan,  we rose to the challenge, took a big leap and added the conservatory.” (The beautiful addition completed in 2008 gave the Fairgate an extra 2500 sq. ft. of event space.) A talented staff and continued dedication to service keeps the inn running smoothly and guests coming back for more. After thousands of guests, meals and events; is it possible that Chris remembers that very first day in 2000? “We hadn’t really gotten the word out yet or booked any reservations but that evening, a couple showed up at the door. They were travelers from Europe looking for lodging. A farmer in a nearby town had given them directions. Later that night, I got quite a surprise when I went to do my laundry. Somehow, the lady had found her way to the private laundry room (quite a feat as it’s 3 floors down and through a maze of halls) and was washing her clothes! To this day, I have no idea how that farmer knew about us.” No mystery these days as to why farmers, families and everyone in between point to the Fairgate as the place to be. Congratulations and Happy 12th! Click here to read more about the construction and history of The Fairgate Inn.

Fairgate Goes International

March 21st, 2012

The Fairgate salutes the American Field Service and celebrates with them 37 years of promoting international friendship and understanding. Founded in 1947, the AFS matches host families with high school students from around the globe. Ruth Ladage, the Chapter Chair for Camas-Washougal, and her husband, Mike, are dedicated to this mission and have hosted six students over the years. “We know firsthand that this program connects people and expands their world. It broadens global vision and fosters peace.” What sets AFS apart from other foreign exchange programs is their local network of support. As Mike explains, “We make sure there is local contact at all times. If any issue needs to be addressed, there is a trained liaison assigned to each family.” And unlike some other organizations, AFS keeps the bar high by not paying families to host students and doing a rigorous background check. “We don’t want a situation where students are brought over to be babysitters.”

Students must be high school juniors or seniors and maintain passing grades. Arrive in Aug and leave after the school year in June. Germany and Italy most popular. A mini profile is provided that gives info on student’s family and hobbies. Host selects from that and then receives more info before making final selection. All students speak English. Single parent families are accepted.

AFS recently held their annual fundraising dinner at the Fairgate and our ballroom was transformed into a mini-United Nations. Each table represented a different country and flags from around the world draped the walls. Current and potential host families were treated to delicious dinner, fabulous prizes and fascinating conversation. Exchange students from Norway, Thailand and Denmark shared their stories and their gratitude. AFS is looking for host families interested in expanding their horizons. Single parent homes are accepted. Other criteria: student must have own bed (but can share a room with your teen), families must complete a background check and agree to include the guest student with family activities and routine. It’s not about entertaining – it’s about allowing them to experience being a part of your family. Note of interest: What two countries does AFS get the most requests from to come to the US? Germany and Italy.

For more information contact AFS at 800-876-2377 or visit them online.

We Can Do It

March 14th, 2012

It takes a lot of labor, skill and hours to run a busy inn and event center. It is teamwork with a capitol T and that rhymes with P and that stands for people. And nothing inspires the folks at the Fairgate more than compliments from our guests. That’s why we carefully copy and post every thank you note onto our office bulletin board … words like these from a happy client go a long way in keeping our staff serving with a smile. “Not only was the venue absolutely fabulous, you and your staff were outstanding.  Your professionalism, courtesy and attention to details were phenomenal.  The food, the snacks and breakfast were delicious.” Go team!
