Pardon us while we brag but we happen to think our DJ and sound guru, Mike Moore, is the BEST in the business. We’re not the only ones. Everyone that works with Mike loves, loves him. And it’s easy to understand why. Not only does Mike handle each and every event like it’s his very own (i.e. gives it over-the-top attention) but he does it in such a friendly and down home fashion you want to just give him a big bear hug of thanks. No bossy attitude here. Mike is all about letting the guests shine while he takes care of the details behind the scenes. Whether being the MC for a birthday bash, the DJ for a wedding or handling big screen projections for a black tie affair, Mike does it all with ease. And how does he feel about being our “go to” guy for over twelve years? “Of all the venues I work at, the Fairgate offers the best layout and easiest access for both vendors and guests. It’s always a pleasure coming up to the hill to do an event here.” Thanks, Mike. We couldn’t be happier to have you in our corner.
An accomplished musician and performer, Mike has a fascinating background including his Air Force career where he served as a combat photographer and Director of Photography for the Air Force Thunderbirds Demo Team. A multi-instrumentalist, Mike has performed with many bands over the years from Vegas to Fairbanks and currently does gigs as a one-man band.
Big Screen Presentations provides DJ, sound and screen services for events throughout the Portland region. Contact Mike at 503-680-0477 or visit his website: Big Screen Presentations

“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual–or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country. “ Samuel Adams
We want to encourage all of you to vote. It is not only your right but your privilege – a privilege fought and won by our forefathers. And one that continues to be guarded and protected by our elected officials. How fortunate we are to live in a free country that grants each of us an opportunity to have our say. Regardless of what color you wear on Election Day, we all live under the red, white and blue. Proudly may she wave.

We love the variety of decor ideas that our guests create for their special events. Especially fun was the recent origami display for a Bar Mitzvah. Birds of all sizes and patterns – like these giant cranes suspended from the ceiling – added color and joy to the ballroom. Centerpieces were fashioned with twig branches and birds. Each guest was gifted with a take home bird placed on their napkin.
Best of all, the guest of honor made all the origami himself. A crafty labor of love that gave wings to a wonderful event. Click here to learn how to fold your own origami crane for fun and good fortune. And visit our Event page for booking your special event at The Fairgate … we guarantee fun and good fortune, too!

Chef Michael works his magic.
What do you call it when one chef creates 12,000 gourmet meals a year with a double oven and a six-burner stove? At the Fairgate, we call it magic. As in, “Chef Michael” magic. On any given day, you may find him dicing baby red potatoes at 5:00 am, marinating chicken breast at noon or creating canapes at 4:00 pm. Sometimes all three on the same day. It’s a never ending whirl of start to finish fabulous food. Whether it’s an early bird breakfast buffet for 60 corporate clients, family style dinner for 150 wedding guests or a plated anniversary party for 35, every single dish is planned and prepared with the same attention to taste and detail. No challenge or request is too tough for Michael to tackle. And that’s saying a lot especially when addressing special diets like gluten or dairy free. It takes years of experience and dedication to perfect the art of cooking. Thanks, Michael … we’re so happy to have a master in the house!

Part of the fun of staying at a Bed and Breakfast is meeting new folks. Sometimes they’re right in your backyard – sometimes they are from another continent. We’ve had guests from Nigeria, Norway and New Jersey so you never know who might be your new best friend. Shown here are recent guests enjoying a lively discussion over breakfast. Bob & Johanna (foreground) from Anchorage, AK were celebrating their 10th Anniversary and Bill & Molly from nearby Vancouver, WA were taking a “break from the kids” holiday. Top topics of conversation regardless of origin or destination? Kids, sports and travel. And, of course, this being an election year, the occasional political debate. Nothing goes better with good food than an extra helping of handshakes and smiles. Get in on the fun and visit us soon! Book a room now.

The color of teal continues to be a favorite with brides for both dress and decor. Officially recognized as an English word in 1917, the color teal is thought to have been inspired by peacocks and has been used in Eastern culture make-up and fabric for centuries. The blending of blue and green into a white base creates the shade while adding grey darkens it.

Teal beaded mat easily adds sparkle and color to the centerpiece.
Teal is a color choice that works year round. It’s especially luscious in satin and silk. We’ve seen a lot of variations of teal over the years but whatever shade you choose, we know it will be a winner. Side fact: the complimentary color for teal is coral and shades of pink. Good to keep in mind when selecting flowers, centerpieces and accent colors for decor.

Ever popular M&M’s get a touch of teal for the candy buffet.

Announcing our brand new Gourmet Continental Breakfast! We’ve taken the home-baked goodness of breakfast and combined it with “help yourself” convenience. Over the years, we’ve seen guests requiring less formality and more flexibility. After careful planning and consideration, we launched our Gourmet Breakfast last week and it’s already receiving great reviews. Guests can select from fresh baked-from-scratch muffins (favorites like Banana Nut or Healthy Morning), our house-made Fairgate Fruit & Nut Granola, Greek-style yogurt, seasonal fresh fruit, steel-cut oatmeal, assorted juices and of course, fresh brewed coffee and tea. Served from 8:00 to 9:00am, guests can choose to dine in the privacy of their suite or in our formal dining room. A recent business traveler shared his approval: “I’m not much of a talker in the morning so I really appreciate being able to have a good breakfast but eat while reading the paper.” We’ve also designed the menu to accommodate folks who are on the go and want to take breakfast with them. “After serving guests for over 12 years, you get to know the likes and dislikes,” states owner, Chris Foyt. “We always try to exceed guests expectations. I think we’ve done just that.” Here’s to happy, healthy eating!
