What is now The Fairgate Inn began as a dream in 1987 in the
hearts and minds of the owners, Jack and Christine Foyt. The
beginning realization started in 1998 with the purchase of three
acres on top of Prune Hill in Camas, Washington. It was not
until February of 1999 that construction actually got underway.
The building and completion of the facility was nothing short of
miraculous when you consider that Jack, who was the designer as
well as General Contractor was also the General Manager of a
large wholesale company with demands and responsibilities. The
project was a team effort so Christine took on the
responsibility for all interior product and décor. In May of
2000, just fourteen months after the construction began, the
11,500 square foot Fairgate Inn was open and ready for business
The Inn was designed as a Bed and Breakfast with eight upscale
suites as well as an Event and Wedding venue. Their first
wedding was hosted within the first thirty days of operation.
The beauty and ambiance of the Inn drew business clients from
both Oregon and Washington who were looking for something other
than the typical meeting location but desired exceptional
service and accessibility to the metro area. The Inn also
provides lodging for corporate travelers with destinations of
East Vancouver and Camas. Lodging guests have traveled from as
far away as New Zealand, England, Germany and Brazil as well as
local residents looking for an escape. The majority of the
wedding clients are residents of Portland and Vancouver, but
brides that reside as far away as Washington D.C., South
Carolina, Texas and Seattle have fallen in love with the Inn and
have chosen it as their destination.
In July of 2008, a 2,500 square foot expansion to the existing
Inn was completed, again in record time. The new Conservatory
was designed to provide much needed additional space for all
types of special events and business meetings.
In 2010, Christine Foyt was honored with The Paul Harris
Fellowship award from The Rotary Foundation. Chris was selected
for this recognition because her peers believe that her life
exemplifies the humanitarian and educational objectives of The
Rotary Foundation and a commitment to helping persons in need
within the local community and around the world as well as
serving the Camas/ Washougal Rotary with generosity and
hospitality during regular weekly meetings.
